Activities
There are many opportunities for sports and swimming. Riding stables are located at a nearby farm (hikes, day trips, longer outings, and stables for own horses). Some of the trails lead along old Etruscan roads. The riding stable that we recommend has its own multilingual website. The surrounding hilly area is well suited for hiking and bicycle tours.
It takes 15 minutes to drive to the Terme di Sorano, a spa with permanent 37,5 degree warm springs that feed into a big pool and cold water pool, both located in a beautiful surrounding. It is about half an hour to Saturnia (warm sulphurous springs with waterfall and pools) and Lake Bolsena - with an area of 114 km2 one of the largest Italian lakes. The Mediterranean at the Monte Argentario (one hour) offers several lovely, long, sandy beaches as well as rocky coastline and islands for diving. Or just set yourself up with a good book in our olive grove or in one of our cool caves (a small library is in the house). Or just relax in a hammock under the "pergola" and enjoy the unobstructed view of the beautful countryside. Enjoy the comfort and the solitude of the Podere Caggio in the midst of beautiful southern Tuscany. In the region you can also enjoy the excellent Tuscan cuisine. Sample the locally produced hams, salamis and sausages, the different types of cheese and "ricotta", and the many homemade dishes that are offered following traditional recipes in the numerous restaurants. Local specialties are "i maccheroni con le noci", "il buglione", "i picciarelli", "i melatini", "gli staffi" and "gli strufoli". Accompany these dishes with good and well-known wines from the region, such as Bianco di Pitigliano, or Morellino di Scansano. The Maremma Region offers three wine roads, Monteregio, Montecucco and Colli di Maremma. Our region is also well known for its excellent olive oil, and we offer our own biologically produced oil (you will find a sample in the kitchen). Tips on good local restaurants are also available in the house. |
